Defence Housing Australia (DHA) is a Nationally Recognised Government Business Enterprise with the primary role of providing housing and related services to Defence and their families. DHA manages one of Australia’s largest national housing portfolios of about 17,000 properties and has an opportunity for an experienced Senior Finance Officer to join the team.

 

About your role

As the Senior Finance Officer, you will manage the development and delivery of monthly financial reports within required timeframes, including the review of financial transactions, preparation of financial journals and month end reconciliations to ensure data integrity.

The main duties of this role are:

  • Manage the development and delivery of monthly financial reports within required time frames, including the review of financial transactions, preparation of financial journals and month end reconciliations to ensure data integrity.
  • Assist with the preparation of the General Purpose Financial statements for DHA including liaison with external and internal auditors.
  • Review of internal procedures and make recommendations to the Assistant Director Financial Reporting & Compliance regarding proposed changes. Manage the enactment of required changes to ensure best practice procedures are implemented.
  • Manage the collation and reporting of financial information required by the Department of Finance or Department of Defence, including monthly and annual financial reporting.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to identify and improve business processes relating to financial accounting functions.

 

About your team

The Finance Division is responsible for ensuring the financial sustainability of DHA, by supporting effective decision making, resource allocation and policy compliance for both internal and external stakeholders.

The team is committed to delivering accurate and reliable financial information across the whole organisation and takes pride supporting the broader organisation with achieving strategic goals in line with these functions.

 

For this role, we will consider how well you:

  • Have an in-depth knowledge of accounting standards and practices and demonstrated ability to evaluate existing processes and procedures and contribute to continuous improvement through the development of policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage competing priorities in a commercial environment and to meet deadlines.
  • Have highly developed oral and written communication skills, including the demonstrated ability to resolve and explain technical matters to a wide range of staff and to provide clear directions and advice to management in a professional manner.
  • Apply strong analytical and conceptual skills including demonstrated experience in financial management systems and managing the completion of complex reconciliations while ensuring accuracy and quality control.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal and liaison skills with the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders, both internal and external to DHA, to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Hold relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting, including membership of CPA or CA and experience in the use of financial management systems.

This is a Non-ongoing Engagement for a period of 12 months, with the option of ongoing employment.
